Low Density SNP Assay Survey....

We would like your input regarding a new lower marker-density test that could be used to predict an individual dairy animal's genetic potential.

Currently an assay that consists of 50,000+ (50K) SNP markers is used by USDA-AIPL to calculate a “genomic evaluation” (estimate genetic potential of individual dairy animals directly from its DNA).

A new lower marker-density assay (approximately 3K) will be available later this year. The new test is largely a subset of markers from the current 50K SNP assay.
